Pneumococcus - pneumococcus
〘Noun〙 The causative agent of various suppurative inflammations, including Krupp pneumonia and bronchopneumonia. It was discovered in 1886 by the German physician A. Frankel. It can be a causative agent, but it can also be found in the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx in healthy people. It is also called pneumococcus or Frankel's bacterium.
