Aijiro Ohnishi

Japanese: 大西愛治郎 - おおにしあいじろう

1881-1958 A religious leader from the Taisho to Showa periods.
Born on August 26, 1881. Joined Tenrikyo in 1908. In 1913, he established a branch of Tenrikyo called "Honmichi" with the awareness that he was the living god "Kanrodai" and the successor to the founder Nakayama Miki. He criticized the current state of Tenrikyo and was expelled in 1918, but founded the Tenri Kenkyukai the following year. He was arrested for lèse majesté and violation of the Peace Preservation Law, but re-established the "Honmichi" religious organization in 1946. He passed away on November 29, 1958. He was 77 years old. He was from Nara Prefecture. His maiden name was Kishioka.

明治14年8月26日生まれ。31年天理教にはいる。大正2年みずからが生き神「甘露台」で,教祖中山みきの後継者であるとの自覚をもち,天理教の分派「ほんみち」を開教。天理教の現状を批判し,13年追放され,翌年天理研究会を設立。不敬罪,治安維持法違反で検挙されたが,昭和21年「ほんみち」教団を再建した。昭和33年11月29日死去。77歳。奈良県出身。旧姓は岸岡。
