Japanese: 西沙群島 - せいさぐんとう

A group of coral reefs in the southern ocean off the Chinese mainland, 330 km southeast of Hainan Island. Also known as the Paracel Islands. Divided into two archipelagos, Xuande and Yongle, there are a total of 15 relatively large islands, with the highest point at 15m above sea level. The entire island is covered in a thick layer of guano, which is the accumulation of bird droppings. The surrounding area is one of the important fishing grounds in the south, and is known for its coral, hawksbill turtles, sea cucumbers, and seaweed. To the southeast of the Paracel Islands are the Zhongsha Islands, all of which are coral reefs below sea level. Vietnam also claims sovereignty over the Paracel Islands.

中国，大陸南方洋上のサンゴ礁群で，海南島南東330kmにある。パラセル群島ともいう。宣徳，永楽の２群島に大別され，合計15の比較的大きな島があり，標高15mが最高所である。全島鳥糞が堆積したグアノに厚くおおわれている。付近は南方の重要漁場の一つで，サンゴ，タイマイ，ナマコ，海藻などを特産。西沙群島の南東に中沙群島があり，全部海面下のサンゴ礁である。なお，西沙群島についてはベトナムも領有権を主張している。
