[1] [noun] (a translation of dāna, also translated as shi. Also transliterated as dan-na and abbreviated as dan). One of the six paramitas. Giving alms. (i) Giving clothes, food, and other items, or money, to Buddhas, monks, the poor, and others. Also, their wealth. Zaisei. *Horyu-ji Garan Engi Toryuki Zaisei-cho, Tenpyo 19 (747) "If we offer the distant land of Sumeroki as an offering, it will become something that will last forever in this age." (ii) Preaching the Dharma. A monk repaying a donation by preaching. Dharma-giving. (iii) Buddhas and Bodhisattvas saving all living beings by removing all fears. Fearless-giving. [2] The name of the area and former city name in the western part of Higashiosaka City, Osaka Prefecture. A producer of Kawachi cotton since the Edo period. Incorporated as a city in 1937 ( Showa 12 ). In the same year, it merged with the cities of Kawachi and Hiraoka to become Higashiosaka City.

[1] 〘名〙 (dāna の訳語。施とも訳す。また、檀那と音訳し、檀とも略す) 六波羅蜜の一つ。施しをすること。(イ) 仏や僧・貧者などに、衣服・食物などの品物や金銭などを施し与えること。また、その財物。財施。※法隆寺伽藍縁起并流記資財帳‐天平一九年（747）「遠きすめろきの御地を布施の奉らくは御世御世にも不朽滅可有物となも」(ロ) 教法を説くこと。僧が説法によって財施に報いること。法施。(ハ) 仏菩薩が一切の衆生から種々の恐怖を取り去って救うこと。無畏施。[2] 大阪府東大阪市西部の地域名、旧市名。江戸時代からの河内木綿の産地。昭和一二年（一九三七）市制。同四二年河内・枚岡の両市と合併して東大阪市となる。
