Sugar glider

Japanese: フクロモモンガ - ふくろももんが（英語表記）sugar glider

A marsupial mammal of the Petaidae family. It glides in a manner similar to the rodent flying squirrel in both appearance and size. It has a round head and large, prominent eyes. It is much smaller than the sugar glider and is said to be agile, but its movements are slower than those of the flying squirrel. Its patagium stretches from the fifth toe of its front paws to the ankles of its hind paws. The brood pouch usually has four, but sometimes two, nipples. Its body color is usually cream or light brown, with a black line on its back. Its body length is 14-17.5 cm, its tail length 17.6-19 cm, and it weighs around 90-130 g.

有袋目フクロモモンガ科の哺乳類。姿，大きさともに齧歯（げつし）類のモモンガに似て滑空する。頭部が丸く，目が大きく目だつ。フクロムササビに比べてはるかに小さく，動作は敏しょうとされるが，モモンガに比較すると動きがゆったりしている。前足の第5指から後足のくるぶしにかけて飛膜がのびる。育児囊にはふつう4個，ときに2個の乳頭がある。体色はふつうクリーム色ないし淡褐色で，背中に1本の黒線がある。体長14～17.5cm，尾長17.6～19cm，体重90～130g前後。
