Wariden Village

Japanese:
Wariden Village
A medieval village located in Haguri County, Owari Province. The area is identified with the current Uchiwarita and Sotowarita in Kisogawa-cho, Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture, which are the relics of the area. Within Matsueda Manor, it is also known as Matsueda Manor Hata-go and Hata-sho, but since 1421 it has only been known as Hata Village. Matsueda Manor in Haguri County was a confiscated land of the Taira clan, and was given by Minamoto no Yoritomo to his younger sister Ichijo Yoshiyasu's wife, and passed on to Yoshiyasu's daughter Saionji Kintsune's wife and son, and became the Saionji family property. In 1220, it was exchanged for land in Kitayama, the royal family property of Minister of War Shirakawa Nakasuke, and thereafter the position of lord of Matsueda Manor was passed down to the Shirakawa family (the Hakuke). In 1382, in order to avoid half-tax payments by the Shugo and obstruction by the Shugo's subordinates, Prince Shirakawa Narimasa donated the Matsueda Manor Hata-go to Daitokuji Nyoian, and later, half of the payment was returned to him as per the contract with Daitokuji. The temple also took responsibility for collecting the annual taxes. However, half-tax payments were made again, and in 1388 Toki Mitsusada donated half of the payment to Daitokuji Nyoian, and in 1409, the Shirakawa family sold their remaining interests to Nyoian. All of the Hata-go lordships came into the hands of Daitokuji, and in 1427 it was recognized as a land off-limits to the Shugo. Hata village was confirmed as Daitokuji territory until 1484.
