The language and customs are similar to those of the neighboring Bogur people (who call themselves Mansi) (they form the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug), and together with Bogur they form the Ob-Ugric language. The dialects are divided into the western dialect in the lower Ob River and the eastern dialect in the upper Ob River, and the western dialect is made up of the northern and southern dialects.
