Located in the Fiordland region in the southwest of New Zealand's South Island, this is the country's largest waterfall. It is divided into three tiers, with a total drop of 580m. It is located about 25km southwest of the famous scenic Milford Sound (inlet) on the west coast of the region, and is known as one of the scenic spots along the Milford Track, a mountain path that connects Milford Sound with the northern end of Lake Te Anau. It was named after Donald Sutherland, the first European to visit. [Tatsuya Taniuchi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
