A Chinese ethical theory. It states that human nature is originally the best, but that it has been corrupted by lust and lost its original nature, and seeks to restore this original best nature by removing the hindrances of lust. It was originally a Taoist theory that appeared in the Zhuangzi, but was reconstructed as a Confucian theory by Li Huan and others of the Tang Dynasty, and was passed down to Song learning as one of its central theories.
