Colony of Eritrea - Eritrea Shokuminchi

...Since the end of the 19th century, Italy has waged two wars of aggression against Ethiopia. In the 1880s, Italy advanced along the Red Sea coast from Assab to Massawa, and in January 1890, it took control of the region as the colony of Eritrea. Meanwhile, in 1889, taking advantage of the struggle for the Ethiopian throne, Italy concluded a treaty of friendship and commerce (Uchhali Agreement) with King Shoa (later Emperor of Ethiopia) Menelik, aiming to make Ethiopia a protectorate.
