Forlì is the capital of the province of Forlì in the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy. It is located about 63 km southeast of Bologna and occupies a key location on the Via Emilia, which runs along the northern foot of the Apennine Mountains. In ancient times, the city was called Formlibii, and in the 12th century it allied with Ravenna, and in the 13th century it became the center of the County of Romagna. It was incorporated into the Papal States in 1504. Today, it is a distribution center for agricultural products, and industries such as furniture, textiles, shoes, and food are carried out here. The city is famous for the Basilica of St. Mercuria, which has a 75-meter-high bell tower (1178-80). Population: 118,167 (2011 estimate).
