Foam rubber

Japanese: フォームラバー（英語表記）foam rubber

A foaming agent is added to latex, stirred, and foamed, then poured into a mold, solidified, and vulcanized in hot air to produce foamed rubber. It is soft and elastic, and is used in mattresses, cushions, and car seats, but is vulnerable to direct sunlight and oil and easily deteriorates. Currently, polyurethane foam has been developed that is half the weight, cheaper, and has excellent moisture absorption properties, and has completely taken over the market. Foam rubber is only used as a luxury product in some reception sets and car seats.

ラテックスに起泡剤を加えて攪拌し，泡状にしてモールド (金型) に流し込み，そのまま凝固させたのち，高熱空気の中を通して加硫して得た泡状のゴム。軟らかで弾力性に富み，マットレス，クッション，あるいは車両用シートなどに使われるが，直射日光や油には弱く老化しやすい。現在では軽さが半分で価格も安く，吸湿性にすぐれたウレタンフォームが開発され，完全に市場を圧してしまった。フォームラバーは応接セットや車両用シートの一部に，高級品として使われているだけである。
