Kangxi Dictionary

Japanese: 康熙字典 - こうきじてん

A Chinese dictionary of characters. Twelve volumes. Compiled by Zhang Yushu, Chen Tingjing and others by imperial order of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Completed in 1716. Modeled on the Ming Dynasty's "Ziyi" by Mei Yingzuo, based on " Shuowen " and "Yupian," the book arranges 47,035 characters into 214 groups in order of stroke count, and includes information on the meanings of characters, alternate pronunciations, alternate meanings, and ancient pronunciations of rhyming scripts from successive generations. It became the standard for subsequent dictionary arrangements and the standard for the arrangement of Chinese-Japanese dictionaries.

中国の字書。一二集。中国、清の康熙帝の勅命により、張玉書・陳廷敬らが編。康熙五五年（一七一六）成立。体裁を明の梅膺祚(ばいようそ)の「字彙」にならい、「説文」「玉篇」などに基づき、四万七〇三五字を二一四部、画数順に分類配列し、歴代の韻書の反切(はんせつ)以下、字義、別音、別義、古音などを記したもの。以後の字書の規範となり、漢和辞典の配列の規準となる。
