Hero of Greek mythology. Son of King Amyntor of Boeotia, he was accused of seducing his father's concubine at his mother's request. In his anger, his father blinded him and banished him to exile under Peleus. Peleus took him to the centaur Chiron, who was skilled in medicine, and restored his sight. He made him king of the Dolopians and asked him to teach his son Achilles. He participated in the Trojan War with Achilles, and after Achilles' death, he became guardian of Achilles' surviving son Neoptolemus. He is said to have died on the way home with Neoptolemus after the fall of Troy.

ギリシア神話の英雄。ボイオチアのアミュントル王の息子であったが，母に頼まれて父の愛妾を誘惑したかどで，立腹した父によって目をつぶされ，追放されてペレウスのもとに亡命した。ペレウスは，彼を医術にすぐれたケンタウロスのケイロンのところへ連れていき，視力を回復させてやったうえに，ドロペス人の王にしてやり，息子アキレウスの教導を依頼した。トロイ戦争には，彼はアキレウスとともに参加し，アキレウスの死後は，その遺児ネオプトレモスの後見役となり，トロイ落城後ネオプトレモスと一緒に帰国する途中で死んだとされる。
