Women's Instructions - Jokunsho

Women's Instructions - Jokunsho
Kana Zoushi. Author unknown. Published in 1637 (Kan'ei 14). Old movable type edition. 3 volumes. In addition to the old movable type edition, there are also manuscripts, so it is thought that its creation dates back a little further. Along with the old movable type edition of Menoto no Zoushi, it is a pioneer of moral books for women, and overall it is heavily influenced by Buddhist and Confucian ideas. It explains the five obstacles for women, the three obediences, the seven things to do and the three things not to do, and also gives examples of chaste and wicked women from China and Japan. This book also influenced the later Kana Retsujoden. [Noda Hisao]
