United Nations Children's Fund. A permanent subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council that provides assistance for child welfare programs in developing countries. Founded in 1946 as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to provide relief to children in war-torn countries. It later expanded its activities to include not only war-torn countries but also developing countries. It changed its name to its current one in 1953, but retained the abbreviation UNICEF. Its headquarters are in New York. It was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965.

《United Nations Children's Fund》国連児童基金。開発途上国の児童養護計画などに対する援助を行う、国連経済社会理事会の常設下部機構。1946年、戦災国の児童の救済を行うために国連国際児童緊急基金（UNICEF, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund）として設立。その後、戦災国だけでなく開発途上国へと活動の場を広げた。1953年に現名称に改称したが、略称のUNICEFはそのまま受け継いだ。本部はニューヨーク。1965年、ノーベル平和賞受賞。
