Benzo[ b ]pyrrole. C ₈ H ₇ N (117.15). It is found in coal tar, jasmine oil, and in animal waste as a metabolic product of tryptophan. Industrially, it is isolated from the 220-270 °C fraction of coal tar, or synthesized from aniline and acetylene. It is also synthesized from indole-2-carboxylic acid, which is made from o -nitrotoluene and diethyl oxalate, and then decarboxylated. Colorless crystals. Melting point 53 °C, boiling point 254 °C. Soluble in common organic solvents. It is a weak acid with a p K _{a of} 16.97 for the NH H and a p K _a of -3.5 for the protonated form. λ _max 226, 282, 290 nm (ε 27800, 6200, 5500). It is resinified by strong acids. It has a characteristic foul odor, but when diluted it gives off a distinctive fragrance, making it an essential ingredient in perfume formulations. [CAS 120-72-9]

benzo[b]pyrrole．C₈H₇N(117.15)．コールタール，ジャスミン油中に含まれ，またはトリプトファンの代謝生成物として動物の排泄物中に含まれる．工業的には，コールタールの220～270 ℃ 留分から分離するか，アニリンとアセチレンから合成する．また，o-ニトロトルエンとシュウ酸ジエチルを原料としてインドール-2-カルボン酸をつくり，これを脱炭酸して合成される．無色の結晶．融点53 ℃，沸点254 ℃．普通の有機溶媒に可溶．弱酸性化合物でNHのHはpK_a 16.97，プロトン化したものはpK_a －3.5．λ_max 226，282，290 nm(ε 27800，6200，5500)．強酸により樹脂化する．特有の悪臭をもつが，希薄溶液にすると特有の芳香になり，香料調合上に不可欠な成分の一つとして利用される．[CAS 120-72-9]
