Trans-Amazonian Highway

A road that runs west from Brazil's Atlantic coast through the great Amazonian forest. It is also called the Trans-Amazonian Highway. It is 5,419 km long. It is connected to the road network in Peru and can reach the Pacific coast. The main objective of the government's National Integration Plan (1970) was to develop agriculture, livestock, and mining (iron, gold, tin, copper, etc.) through the settlement of the vast undeveloped Amazonia, and the construction of this road was part of that plan. From João Pessoa and Recife on the Atlantic coast, National Highways 230 and 232 head west, join the two at Picos, and then continue on National Highway 230 to Estreito.

ブラジルの大西洋岸からアマゾニア(アマゾン地域)の大森林を西に貫通する道路。アマゾン横断道路ともいう。全長5419km。ペルーの道路網と連結しており，太平洋岸に到達できる。巨大な未開地であるアマゾニアへの入植により，農業，畜産，鉱業(鉄，金，スズ，銅等)を興すことが政府の全国統合計画(1970)の主要課題であり，この道路建設もその一環である。大西洋岸のジョアン･ペソアとレシフェから国道230号，232号で西進してピコスで合流し，さらに230号によってエストレイトに達する。
