A colorless solid organometallic compound obtained by reacting metallic lithium with bromobenzene or iodobenzene. It is extremely unstable in air, and will instantly ignite and burn out. It dissolves well in ethers, but is almost insoluble in benzene. It shows almost the same reactivity as the phenyl Grignard reagent, and is an important compound in organic synthesis.
