Mythology that is believed to have been passed down among the ancestors of the Hebrew (Jewish) people before the establishment of the belief in the one God Yahweh. Because it was purified by that belief, the original mythology is unclear, but in recent years, archaeological and other research has shed light on the situation of surrounding ethnic groups, and the original situation of the Hebrew people themselves is becoming clear. According to this, even within the Old Testament itself, there are elements common to the myths of neighboring ethnic groups, such as the creation of the world, the paradise of Eden, the expulsion from paradise, Noah's flood, and the construction of the Tower of Babel, and it is said that there are traces of mythological traditions from the Mesopotamian period. The belief in Yahweh, which was originally a tribal god, gradually overcame polytheism, and it is thought that primitive mythology was also reinterpreted and incorporated as a Yahweh faith.

唯一神ヤハウェ信仰成立以前に，ヘブライ (ユダヤ) 人の先祖の間に伝承されていたと推定される神話。その信仰による純化のため，原始の神話については明らかでないが，近年考古学などの研究によって周辺諸民族の状況が解明され，ヘブライ人自体の原始状況も明らかになりつつある。それによれば，旧約聖書自体のなかにも，天地創造，エデンの楽園，楽園追放，ノアの洪水，バベルの塔建設など，近隣民族の神話と共通の要素がみられ，メソポタミア時代の神話伝承の痕跡がうかがわれるとされる。初め部族神であったヤハウェの信仰は徐々に多神教を克服していくとともに，原始神話をもヤハウェ信仰的に再解釈して取入れていったと思われる。
