Ibaramo - Ibaramo

Japanese: イバラモ - いばらも
Ibaramo - Ibaramo
A submerged annual plant of the family Diptera (illustration) that grows in ponds and streams. The stems rise above the water, are brittle, and easily break at the nodes. There are sparse thorns. The leaves are opposite, stiff and linear, 3-6 cm long and 2-3 mm wide, with serrated edges that end in thorns. The plant is dioecious, and flowers in the leaf axils from July to September. The male flowers are enclosed in transparent bracts that contain only one anther, which is divided into four lobes. The female flowers lack bracts and consist of only one carpel, and contain a single oval seed inside.
