[1] [Name] A shrub of the Saxifragaceae family. Native to India, Malaysia and China, it was introduced to Japan in 1722 in Nagasaki. The trunk is about two meters tall. The leaves are lanceolate and opposite, about 20 centimeters long. The flowers grow densely in cone-shaped spikes, white or pale purple, and bloom all year round. The fruits are berries that ripen green. The roots are called "Jozan" and are used as an antipyretic for malaria. Jozanboku.
