…An ancient Egyptian funerary text that aids in the resurrection and attainment of eternal life, written on papyrus and buried with the dead from the New Kingdom (16th century BCE). It follows the Pyramid Texts, inscribed on the walls of the tombs of the pyramids of kings at the end of the Old Kingdom, and the Coffin Texts, inscribed on coffins from the Middle Kingdom. It was used by high-ranking officials and aristocrats for about 2,000 years until the 4th century, after Egypt was Christianized. It consists of spells and prayers of various lengths necessary to aid in resurrection and to lead a blissful life in the afterlife. …
