[Died] 480 BC. Thermopylae King of Sparta, ancient Greece (reigned c. 490-480 BC). In 480 BC, he led a small force to the end in order to stop the advance of the Persian army led by Achaemenid king Xerxes I at the narrow pass of Thermopylae, and was killed along with all the Spartan soldiers. His heroic act deeply impressed the Greeks.

A Greek epigram poet from the first half of the 3rd century BCE. Born in Tarentum in southern Italy. His Anthology of Greek Poems includes about 100 poems, including dedicatory poems and epigraphic poems. His works, which depict the daily lives of the poor in elaborate writing, were popular with the people of his time.

前3世紀前半のギリシアのエピグラム詩人。南イタリアのタレンツム出身。『ギリシア詞華集』に奉献詩,碑銘詩などおよそ 100編が収録されている。貧しい人々の日常生活を技巧を凝らした字句で綴った作が当時の人々に好まれた。
