The protagonist of Joruri and Kabuki. He rescued the daughter of his teacher, Yoshioka Ichimisai, who had been ambushed, and succeeded in avenging his enemy, leading to him being given the name Kida Muneharu by Tachibana Munetora, lord of Kokura Castle in Buzen (Fukuoka Prefecture). The Joruri piece "Hikosan Gongen Chikai no Suketachi" was first performed in 1786. The name was taken from a real person who was a woodcutter from Keya Village, Hikosan, Buzen (Fukuoka Prefecture), who later served Kato Kiyomasa and was killed in battle in Korea.
