Japan Industrial Club

Japanese: 日本工業俱楽部 - にほんこうぎょうクラブ

A capitalist organization founded in 1917. During the Meiji period, local chambers of commerce and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce were active as comprehensive capitalist organizations, but as industrialization progressed, there was a growing movement to form an organization that would represent the unique interests of industrial capital, comparable to the Tokyo Bank Association, which was a powerful organization of bankers. During the economic boom of World War I, the Japan Industrial Club was founded with Mitsui executive Takuma as its chairman, and was active, covering leading industrialists. In addition to making recommendations on economic policies such as self-sufficiency in steel and tariff revisions, the club was active in labor issues, and took the lead in the movement against the Labor Union Bill during the Hamaguchi Osachi administration.

1917年に創立された資本家団体。明治期には総合的資本家団体として各地の商業会議所と商業会議所連合会が活躍したが，工業化の進展とともに，銀行家の団体として力のあった東京銀行集会所に匹敵するような工業資本独自の利害を代表する組織を結成しようとする動きが高まった。第1次大戦下の好況のなかで，三井の重鎮団琢磨を理事長として社団法人日本工業俱楽部が創立され，有力な工業家を網羅して活発な活動を展開した。鉄鋼自給政策，関税改正など経済政策に関する建議活動とならんで，労働問題に積極的に取り組み，浜口雄幸内閣時代の労働組合法案反対運動では先頭に立った。
