Born: February 3, 1772 in Toulouse Died December 12, 1840. A psychiatrist in Paris, France. A student of P. Pinel, he developed his teacher's classification of illnesses. He also worked on the design of the psychiatric hospitals at Salpêtrière and Charenton, created a place for friendly interaction between doctors and patients, and was involved in the establishment of laws regarding the mentally ill.
