…Jain ruins on two adjacent hills, Khandagiri (southwest, 15 caves and a stone temple reconstructed in the early 19th century) and Udayagiri (northeast, 18 caves and a stone temple site with a circular rear on the top), about 6 km southwest of Bhubaneswar in the state of Orissa, eastern India. The inscription of King Kalavela in Cave 14 of Udayagiri is thought to date to the end of the 1st century BCE, and the main caves were excavated by the 2nd century. The reliefs on the upper part of the main corridor walls of caves 1, 3, 9 and 10 of Udayagiri and cave 3 of Khandagiri are characterized by soft and dynamic depictions of the human body. …
