A former town in Ichishi District, central Mie Prefecture. The Kumozu River meanders southeast through the north, and the Hase River flows through the south. The central settlement has developed along these two rivers. There are factories making food, electrical parts, silk, and towels, and the town is also a producer of high-quality rice. The Meisho Line and Kintetsu Osaka Line run through the town. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Tsu City along with Hisai City, Kawage Town, Geino Town, Ano Town, Misato Village in Aki District, Karasu Town, Hakusan Town, and Misugi Village in Ichishi District. 47.66 km2 .
