Front 25 or 20 - Rear 45 or 50 A famous philosopher who was educated in both Jewish tradition and Greek culture. He was commonly known as Philo Judaeus. He was born into a wealthy Jewish family in Alexandria. At the time, Alexandria was a Greek cultural city that flourished under the rule of the Ptolemy dynasty, but it was home to a large Jewish population (the Jewish population in Egypt at that time was said to be no less than one million), and they were granted special autonomy. The most pressing problem for these Jews in the Diaspora was how to harmonize the teachings of their forefathers, the Old Testament, with their cultural background, Greek thought, and how to defend the superiority of Jewish thought.
