An ancient Greek philosopher. Born in Croton (or Taras), a town in southern Italy. A representative Pythagorean. He developed Pythagoras's theory of the soul, number theory, and celestial theory, for example, preaching the theory that the body is the tomb of the soul (soma-sema theory), allocating components (fire, earth, air, water, aether [?]) to five types of regular polyhedrons, and believing that ten celestial bodies, including the Earth, revolve around a central fire called the "furnace of all things" and the "house of Zeus." There is a well-known legend that Plato plagiarized the work of Philolaus to write "Timaeus."
