Evenki people are widely distributed, from the left bank of the Yenisei River in the west to the Okhotsk coast in the east, and from the far north tundra to the Amur River in the south, covering almost all of Siberia, as well as northwestern China. They speak the Evenki language, a Tungusic language. The Evenki people are most densely populated in the area between the Nizhnyaya Tunguska River and the Podkamennaya Tunguska River, tributaries of the Yenisei River. In 1930, the Evenki National District (767,600 km2 in area, renamed the Evenki Autonomous District in 1977) was established around this area. *Some of the terminology referenced in the "Evenki Ethnic District" is listed below.
