Triphenylmethane dyes are turned into pigments using a lake agent, and are commonly known as Fanal Colors, after the original product name. Triphenylmethane dyes are beautiful basic dyes with low color fastness, but when they are laked with a special lake agent made from phosphorus-tungsten-molybdenum salts, the pigments have beautiful colors with high light resistance, and are primarily used as pigments for printing inks.
