A people who settled on the western coastal plain of Palestine in the 12th to 11th centuries BC. They are identified with the P-R-S-T, a member of the "Sea Peoples" who migrated from the Aegean Sea during the reign of Ramses III and attempted to invade Egypt by sea but were repelled. The land is referred to as Parastu in Assyrian inscriptions from the late 9th century BC, and as Peleshet, or Philistia, in the Old Testament. This people oppressed the tribes of Israel at the end of the settlement period with the military power of five cities: Gaza, Gath, Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Ekron, and killed Saul in battle.

前12～前11世紀にパレスティナの西海岸平野に定着した民族。ラメセス3世の治世にエーゲ海域より移動して，エジプトに海上から侵入を試みたが撃退された〈海の民〉の一員p‐r‐s‐tに比定される。その地は前9世紀末のアッシリアの碑文ではパラストゥ，旧約聖書ではペレシェト，すなわちペリシテとして言及される。この民族は土地定着時代末期のイスラエル諸部族を，ガザ，ガテ，アシケロン，アシドド，エクロンの5都市の軍事力で圧迫し，サウルを戦死させた。
