1570?-1612 Indian historian. Born in the Persian Caspian Sea coast, he arrived in India as a young man. He was protected by the court of Bijapur, one of the five Muslim kingdoms in the Deccan region. Under its ruler, Ibrāhīm Ādil Shāh II (r. 1580-1626), he wrote a history of the medieval Muslim kingdoms of India known as Tārīkh-i-Firishta. This work was written from a different perspective than the histories written by the Mughal court historians, and some of the descriptions do not necessarily focus on northern India.
