Folk words for older wives are widely found, such as anenyobou in Tokyo, ohinyobou in Kansai, shiizatoji in Okinawa (shiiza means older, toji means housewife), and heramashi in Tohoku, all of which mean older, and it is thought that these names emerged as older wives became less common. …現在は夫が妻より年長であるのが一般であるが，初婚年齢が今より低かった時代には，一人前の女性として，主婦の能力にたけている姉女房が，それほど珍しくはなかったと考えられている。姉女房を指す民俗語は広くみいだされ，東京のアネニョウボウ，関西のオヒニョウボウ，沖縄のシイザトジ(シイザは年長，トジは主婦の意)，東北のヘラマシなどいずれも年長を意味し，姉女房が一般的でなくなる過程においてこうした名称が顕在したと考えられる。現在も姉女房を好む地域があり〈姉女房，福の神〉という類のことわざが各地にある。…
