A high mountain in the Patagonian Andes, Argentina. Also known as Chaltel. Elevation 3,375m. Latitude 49°16′S, longitude 73°03′W. Located on the border with Chile at the eastern end of the central part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Body, it stands tall surrounded by glaciers. There is a lot of snow due to the moist southwesterly winds blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. However, the side of Lake Viedma on the southeastern foot is dry due to the rain shadow effect. It was first reached by the French team led by G. Magnone in 1952. [Nogami Michio] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
