December 1st. On this day, rice cakes were pounded and red bean rice was cooked to celebrate the youngest brother. One theory also says that it means "the last new day of the month of the year." In some places, on this day, children would wear flower hats made from urajiro leaves and go from house to house chanting "Otoko no sakuji," receiving rice and coins. This may have been the original form of the " Sekizoro, " a year-end tour of houses in the three capital cities of the Edo period. It is also linked to the Kawabitari no tsuitachi festival, a festival to the water god, and it is said that eating rice cakes on this day will help you avoid drowning. Otogo tsuitachi.
