In a broad sense, it refers to fields that were occupied by private individuals, such as kubunden, shikiden, iden, and kouden, other than nori-da (public fields), but usually it refers to fields that were specially set aside, such as kuni-sha-da, shiki-sha-da, and choku-shi-da.
