Jan Huyghen van Linschoten

Japanese: ファン・リンスホーテン(英語表記)Jan Huyghen van Linschoten
Jan Huyghen van Linschoten
Around 1563 to 1611
Dutch navigator. He was the first Dutchman to introduce the Orient to the world. He traveled to Spain as a young man, and arrived in Goa, India, in 1583, staying there for about five years in the service of the archbishop. He returned to the Netherlands in 1592, and wrote about his extensive experiences in various places, including in his Maritime Guide to the East, published in 1595-96. It is believed that Houtman's fleet, which set sail from the Netherlands in 1595 for the East Indies, knew at least part of this book.
