Similar tissues include the pharyngeal tonsil (adenoid), eustachian tube tonsil, lingual tonsil, intermediate tonsil, pharyngeal lateral cord, and retropharyngeal lymph follicle, which form a ring in the pharynx, the first barrier to the respiratory and digestive systems.
