Phanrang - Phanran (English spelling)

The capital of Ninh Thuan Province in south-central Vietnam. Located at the depths of Phan Rang Bay, it is an excellent port that avoids the northeast monsoon. It has a population of 89,500 (estimated in 2003). National Highway 1 runs through the city, and the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh Railway passes through Tuol Cham Station, 5.5 km west of the city. It was once the capital of the Champa Kingdom, and there are ruins of the Cham people nearby, including the Cham Towers built in the 8th century. As well as being a distribution center for agricultural products, salt production is thriving on the coast.

ベトナム中南部、ニントゥアン省の省都。ファンラン湾の奥に位置し、北東モンスーンを避けうる良港である。人口8万9500（2003推計）。国道1号線が通じるほか、ハノイ―ホー・チ・ミン鉄道が町の西方5.5キロメートルのツール・チャム駅を通る。かつてのチャンパ王国の都の所在地で、付近には8世紀につくられた「チャムの塔」などチャム人の遺跡がある。農産物の集散地であるとともに、海岸では製塩業が盛んである。
