It is produced by reducing the oxime of benzyl methyl ketone or by reacting it with formamide. It is a liquid with an amine odor. Boiling point: 200-203 °C. The sulfate (melting point: 320-322 °C, decomposition) is a white crystal that is easily soluble in water and has a stimulant effect on the central nervous system and sympathetic nervous system. Its manufacture and use are prohibited in Japan, but it is used as a weight loss drug in other countries.
