Shigenari Inage - Inage Shigenari

Year of birth: Unknown. Military commander in the early Kamakura period. A member of the first branch of the Kanto Taira clan and Chichibu clan, he was a local feudal lord whose family name was Inage-sho in Tachibana-gun, Musashi Province (Kanagawa Prefecture). His father was Oyamada betto Ariyoshi. His wife was the daughter of Hojo Tokimasa. His daughter married Ayano-koji Moshisue. His posthumous name was Dozen. He prospered as a relative of Hojo Tokimasa, and in June 1205, he slandered and destroyed Hatakeyama Shigetada, head of the Chichibu clan, but was executed when Hojo Tokimasa fell from grace. In 1195, at Aohaka Station in Mino Province, Shigenari received urgent news that his wife was critically ill. Thanks to the famous horse "Mikakuro" given to him by Shogun Yoritomo, he was able to be with his wife in time to see her die, and in his grief he became a monk. However, this heartwarming story can also be seen as a submission to his family as Tokimasa's son-in-law.

鎌倉前期の武将。関東平氏秩父氏の一流で,武蔵国橘樹郡(神奈川県)稲毛荘を名字の地とする在地領主。父は小山田別当有重。妻は北条時政の娘。娘は綾小路師季に嫁ぐ。法名道全。北条時政の縁者として栄え,元久2(1205)年6月には秩父氏本家の畠山重忠を讒言して滅亡させるが,北条時政の失脚により誅殺された。建久6(1195)年,美濃国青墓駅で妻危篤の急報を得た重成が,将軍頼朝から下された名馬「三日黒」のおかげで妻の死に目に間に合い,悲しみのあまり出家したエピソードは著名。だが,この美談も時政の婿の立場による実家への追従と捉えられる。
