Intendencia (English spelling)

Japanese: インテンデンシア（英語表記）intendencia

A system introduced by the Spanish Bourbon dynasty in the 18th century as part of administrative reforms in Spain and its colonies, or a jurisdiction based on this system. It was modeled on the Intendance (Entendant) of the French monarchy. Charles III established the Intendencia in Cuba in 1764, in Lima in 1784, and in New Spain (Mexico) in 1786, with the aim of centralizing colonial administration, preventing abuse of power by colonial officials (such as Corregidor), and increasing revenue from the colonies. The official in charge of the Intendencia was called the Intendente, and was limited to those born in Spain.
