〘Noun〙① Buddhist term. A burning fiery chariot. It is said to carry criminals who committed evil deeds in life to hell. It is also a fiery chariot that carries and tortures criminals in hell. ※Hyakuza Hodan (1110), leap year 7th month, 8th "As the fiery chariot of hell approaches" ※Daikanhon Noh play, Aya-tsuzumi (late Muromachi period), "They say the fiery chariot tortures the body and breaks bones" [Mahaprajnaparamita-ron, 14]② A term used to describe the sudden wind and rain that sometimes blows the coffin away during a funeral, which is seen as the work of a kind of supernatural spirit. ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Honcho Sakurain-Hibito (1689), vol. 1: "If he dies at any moment, people will say that he will be seized by a fire engine ." ※Jusho- tei Honsho-komoku Keimo (1847), vol. 47: "At the time of the funeral, a strong wind, thunder, and storm came while the coffin was being laid, but the coffin was not damaged, and the corpse was taken and placed on a tree branch, rock, or stone in the mountains. This is called Kuhasha." ③ Abbreviation of "Kasha Baba (fire engine old woman)." ※Onna Juho-ki (Genroku 5th year) (1692), vol. 1: "In the lower classes, they are called mountain gods by their husbands and kuhasha by people.
