Japanese: タイヨウチュウ(太陽虫) - タイヨウチュウ

A general term for protozoa belonging to the superclass Sarcoptes, class Actinopoda, subclass Heliozoa, or a species of the family Actinophrysidae. All members of this family are freshwater organisms and live as plankton in ponds and swamps, or on aquatic plants. The sunfish Actinophrys sol (illustration) is commonly seen as plankton in ponds and swamps. The diameter of the body excluding the pseudopodia is about 50 μm, and it is spherical, with many thin pseudopodia radiating out. Each pseudopodia has a needle-like axis that reaches to the central nucleus.

肉質虫超綱，放射足虫綱，太陽虫亜綱Heliozoaに属する原生動物の総称，またはハダカタイヨウチュウ科の1種を指す。この仲間はすべて淡水産で，池や沼のプランクトンとして，あるいは水草などに着生している。タイヨウチュウActinophrys sol（イラスト）は池沼のプランクトンとしてふつうに見られる。体の直径は偽足を除いて約50μm，球形で多くの細い偽足を放射状にだしている。偽足には1本の針状の軸があって，中心部の核まで達している。
