Japanese: ビワモドキ - びわもどき

An evergreen tall tree of the Loquataceae family (illustration). It grows thick, large leaves similar to those of a loquat, and produces large white flowers similar to those of a camellia. The stem branches out into many branches and spreads out, reaching a height of about 10 m. The leaves are clustered at the ends of the branches, oblong-lanceolate, with sharp sawtooth, 20-30 cm long, and have clearly visible parallel lateral veins. The flowers grow singly next to the leaves, are about 15 cm in diameter, and are fragrant. Five thickened sepals encase the flower, which has five petals. Numerous stamens gather in clusters to cover the style.
