Marquetry is a decorative technique in which many small pieces or boards of wood with different colors and grains are arranged in various patterns and shapes, mainly geometric designs, and then pasted or embedded on other boards. It appears to have started as early as the Koka era (1844-1848). Hakone zaiku is famous, but the Odawara and Hakone regions have long been famous for woodworking and turning, and it is thought that marquetry was born from this background. It was discontinued for a time, but in recent years it has started to be used as a handicraft to make accessories, hand boxes, cloud prints, etc. For the base, wood such as Aohada and Dogwood are used to represent white, Kurogaki and Jindai Katsura are used to represent black, Nigaki and Hazel are used to represent yellow, and Magnolia and Akakuzu are used to represent red.
