I. Illich's proposal for a "deschooling society," which fundamentally questions the nature of schools, has also been attracting attention around the world since the late 1970s. The opportunity web, a network of learning opportunities that replaces school, is made up of four elements: (1) reference work for educational matters, (2) skill exchange, (3) peer selection, and (4) reference work for educators in a broad sense.
